Opening Day: dawn in a stadium with your eyes closed—warm sun, clear air, one moment of arrival between silence and ceremony.
Why
The Stack archetype replaces Broadsheet (forbidden by recent usage) because Opening Day is fundamentally a threshold moment—arrival—not a newspaper. The Stack's horizontal banding creates a sequence of distinct moods: dark declaration at top, warm parchment identity and signals, centered pull quote as the page's final exhale, dark footer. This mirrors the brief's tension between celebration and stillness, resolved through structure rather than content density.
The color palette (hue 38°, warm amber-stone, 5–9% saturation) translates the brief's 73°F sunny afternoon directly into design tokens: no shadows, zero border-radius, crisp edges in clear light. The typography inverts traditional hierarchy—DM Sans announces (geometric, medium-weight, wide tracking), Lora delivers comfort (warm serif for unhurried reading). Spacing is generous (96–128px band padding), letting whitespace carry weight as the brief requests. The single amber accent (#E8950E) is reserved for the Opening Day headline, establishing the day as the sole chromatic declaration on a stage of warm neutrals. The Perfect Fourth scale (1.333) ensures typography breathes without extremes, from 9px metadata to 67px pull quote.
